By the end of 2009 Rosatom is planning to resettle the residents of the village of Oktiabrsky in Chita region
The head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko says that the village is situated near a uranium deposit. It was built in 1964 as a camp for geologists. Radiologists have recorded high radon level in the area.
Kiriyenko says that the Government has already earmarked necessary funds for the resettlement. “We must solve this problem within two years, at longest,” notes Kiriyenko.
274 families have already been resettled from Oktiabrsky to Krasnokamensk. 741 more families are still waiting for resettlement. This will require some 775mln RUR, of which 500mln RUR will be allocated by Rosatom.
Presently, Rosatom is implementing a similar project in Muslumovo, a village in Chelyabinsk region that suffered from a Soviet nuclear project in the 1950s. The agency has allocated 600mln RUR for this project.
The residents of Muslumovo may either move to newly built houses or get 1mln RUR compensation and buy houses they like.
