The head of Rosatom will take part in traditional underwater clean-up at Volgodonsk NPP
The head of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy (Rosatom) Sergey Kiriyenko will take part in the traditional underwater clean-up at Volgodonsk NPP.
The clean-up will take place at the Tsimliansky reservoir on June 8–9 on the initiative of Volgodonsk NPP with the support of the All-Russian Diving League. Attending the event will be representatives of the leading dive centers of Moscow, Rostov region, residents of Volgodonsk, employees of Volgodonsk and Kursk NPPs.
Volgodonsk district is known for its beautiful nature and picturesque landscapes. The Tsimliansky reservoir (whose water is used by VNPP) is an active recreation zone.
This action is part of the reservoir clean-up program conducted by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors in many countries. Such actions are conducted every year and are aimed at improving the ecology of rivers, lakes and seas: volunteer-divers inspect and clean up the bottoms of reservoirs located near recreation areas, while local residents tidy up the shores.
Annual underwater clean-ups have become a good tradition for Rosenergoatom. The head of Rosatom regularly attends such events: last year he took part in a clean-up at Kalinin NPP.
Note:
All NPPs are built near big reservoirs and have own cooling ponds. NPPs are generally reputed as the ecological safest industrial facilities as they have absolutely no impacts on the nearby waters and air.
