The Coordinating Committee of Rosenergoatom and Energoatom met in Kyiv on June 5–6 2007
The 15th meeting of the Coordinating Committee of Rosenergoatom (Russia) and Energoatom (Ukraine) took place in Kyiv on June 5–6 2007 under the chairmanship of Rosenergoatom Director General Sergey Obozov and Energoatom President Andrey Derkach.
The sides discussed their plans for 2007, exchanged information about their activities, considered the format and terms of their cooperation under the present conditions in Russia and Ukraine.
Presently, both countries have ambitious plans to develop their nuclear power industries and need cooperation as never before.
The sides pointed out that integration and cooperation are the most effective formats of relations. Particularly, the countries should actively develop cooperation between their NPPs. Some Russian and Ukrainian NPPs already have direct contacts, for example, Balakovo and Zaporizhia, Kalinin and South Ukrainian NPPs. The Committee supported the idea to establish similar ties between Kola and Rovno and Volgodonsk and Khmelnitsky NPPs.
The sides stressed the necessity of deepening cooperation in the supply of equipment and the formation of a reserve of especially important units (turbines, transformers, rotors, etc.) for exchange in case of necessity. The Russian and Ukrainian NPPs use mostly identical equipment and can help each other to reduce repair periods and to raise efficiency.
During the meeting Obozov and Derkach signed an agreement on cooperation in personnel training.
The sides also signed a protocol on cooperation between the Coordinating Council of the Youth Organizations of Rosenergoatom and the Youth Council of Energoatom.
Rosenergoatom experts believe that the development of the cooperation between Rosenergoatom and Energoatom reflects the agreements reached by the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko and the president of Energoatom Andrey Derkach.
Rosenergoatom and Energoatom have been effectively cooperating in science and engineering since 2000.
The next meeting of the Committee will take place in Russia in Dec 2007.
