Volgodonsk nuclear power engineers conduct ecological clean-up action

Heads of Rosatom and Rosenergoatom have taken part in ecological clean-up action at Volgodonsk NPP

The heads of Rosatom and Rosenergoatom Sergey Kiriyenko and Sergey Obozov took part in the ecological clean-up action that took place at Tsimliansky reservoir near Volgodonsk NPP on June 8. The action was organized by Volgodonsk NPP with the support of the All-Russian Diving League and Underwater Confederation.

Over 170 people participated in the action: representatives of the leading dive clubs of Moscow and Rostov region, residents of Volgodonsk, students, young employees of Volgodonsk and Kursk NPPs. They collected four truckfulls of garbage.  

After the action Kiriyenko thanked the participants, while Obozov presented them with awards and certificates. He said that this “green underwater clean-up” had strongly improved the environment of Tsimliansky reservoir.

Obozov confessed that last year he thought that the action was just an experiment but today he can see that such actions have become a good tradition. He invited everybody to take part in a similar action at Leningrad NPP next year.

Ecological clean-ups at NPPs are conducted in many countries every year on the occasion of the World Environment Day. They are parts of the rivers, lakes and seas recovery program drafted by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors.
