Ukraine is interested in joining International Uranium Enrichment Center

During a visit to Angarsk an Ukrainian Energy Ministry delegation confirmed Ukraine’s interest in joining International Uranium Enrichment Center

Russian-Ukrainian consultations on the possibility of Ukraine’s joining the International Uranium Enrichment Center took place in Angarsk on June 19 in accordance with the agreement reached by the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko during his recent visit to Ukraine. The Russian delegation was led by State Secretary, Deputy Head of Rosatom N.Spasskiy, the Ukrainian one – by Deputy Fuel and Energy Minister Y.Nedashkovsky. The director general of Angarsk Electrolytic Chemical Combine V.Shopen took part in the meeting.

During the consultations the Ukrainian side confirmed their interest in the IUEC project. The Russian side presented detailed information about the project, particularly, the model of the center, its interaction with the IAEA, the rights and duties of its shareholders. The sides decided to meet in the coming months and, together with Kazakhstan, to discuss all necessary procedures for Ukraine’s involvement in the project. 

After the meeting the Ukrainian delegates visited the AECC.
