IAEA-Rosenergoatom working conference on NPP safety took place in Moscow on June 25–28 2007
The topic of the conference is Decision Making Based on Probabilistic Safety Analysis. Representatives of IAEA, Rosenergoatom, Atomenergoproject, Research and Development Institute of Power Engineering, Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Rostekhnadzor, Finnish and US experts took part in the conference.
PSA is the basic part of an NPP’s measures for enhancing its safety and allows it to make effective and timely decisions and to prevent operating failures.
The conferees exchanged experience on the use of PSA.
IAEA senior engineer for safety Mark Reinhart noted that PSA data are a basis for balanced decisions and a key to NPP safety.
Specialist of Promet Solutions Yussi Vaurio (Finland) told his colleagues about PSA data collection methods. He said that PSAs have greatly helped in the modernization of Finnish Loviisa and Olkiluolo NPPs.
The deputy head of the department for channel and fast reactors of Rosenergoatom Sergey Dolganov said that Russia started to work with PSAs in 1993, mostly, under WWER projects. “Today we have PSAs for all types of WWERs,” he said.
Representative of the Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Rostekhnadzor Gennady Samokhin said that PSA helps to maximally reduce radiation risks.
The conferees adopted a document containing recommendations on how to effectively use PSA for NPP safety enhancement.
