Over 100mln RUR to be allocated for ecology in MCC zone

11.07.2007 // REGNUM

Over 100mln RUR will be spent on social-ecological measures in the control area of Mining Chemical Combine (Zheleznogorsk)

During its June 10 session the Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk region considered changes in the regional program “Social-Ecological Measures in the Radiation Control Area of Mining-Chemical Combine in 2007–2009.” Initially, the local authorities earmarked 50mln RUR for 2007. The agreement between the Administration of Krasnoyarsk region and Rosatom for joint financing of ecological programs says that 25% of the MCC’s profit should be allocated for ecological projects.

The addition financing for 2007 will make up 56.7mln RUR. The money will be spent on radio-ecological activities, reconstruction of hospitals, construction of safe water supply systems and resettlement of people from radon-contaminated houses. The changes were adopted in two readings.

To remind, the MCC control area covers not only Zheleznogorsk but also Lesosibirsk, Yeniseysk, Bolshemurtinsky, Kazachinsky and Sukhobuzimsky districts. Those territories are situated along Yenisey, a river polluted by the plant’s activities.
