Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has suggested intensifying cooperation with ASEAN states in production of nuclear energy and prevention of nuclear terrorism

“In the future we might consider deepening our cooperation in such fields as science, technology, nuclear power engineering and the safe treatment of radioactive materials,“ Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the ASEAN FM meeting in Manila Wednesday.

Among other priorities is the use of nuclear technologies in medicine, industry and agriculture.

“This serves the interests of both Russia and ASEAN and reflects the growing economic potential of our countries,” Lavrov said.

He pointed out that presently Russia and ASEAN are carrying out a very important project for establishing an ASEAN center at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.

Lavrov urged the sides to work out a “road map” for implementing their economic agreement and complex plan of action.

The preparation of a new meeting of Russian and ASEAN leaders is one of the priorities for the near future.
