Mikhail Fradkov: Development of nuclear power engineering in Russia may require additional financing

10.09.2007 // Interfax

The Russian Government may enlarge the programs for development of nuclear power engineering in the country

During a visit to the Institute of Physics and Power Engineering in Obninsk on Friday, Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Fradkov said: “I have seen that the earlier adopted programs need some additional financing.”

Russia has definite competitive advantages and capacities in nuclear power engineering and should back them up with substantial financing. “We need to improve our management and to comply with the market conditions.” Fradkov did not specify what exactly he decided to do: “It is a secret. This is a complex industry – it has a military component, too.”

Fradkov pointed out that Russia is interested in developing cooperation in nuclear energy sector. “We should cooperate and get what we lack,” he said.
