Head of Rostekhnadzor to take part in IAEA General Conference

The head of Rostekhnadzor will take part in the Sept 17–18 IAEA General Conference as controller of NPP safety

On Sept 17–18 the head of the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Control (Rostekhnadzor) Konstantin Pulikovsky will take part in the IAEA General Conference as controller of NPP safety, reports the press service of Rostekhnadzor.

In the past few days Pulikovksy has met with his foreign colleagues in Vienna. Particularly, he met with the head of the Nuclear Safety Authority of France (Direction générale de la sûreté nucléaire et de la radioprotection) Andre Claude Lacoste, the head of the IAEA Nuclear Safety Department Tomohiro Taniguchi, a delegation of the National Nuclear Safety Administration of China and the directors of the Nuclear Safety Authority of Romania. Pulikovsky also met Director-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Luis Echavarri.

In 2006 Rostekhnadzor significantly enlarged its contacts with the IAEA Nuclear Safety Department. Last year Rostekhnadzor representatives took part in a number of IAEA conferences, symposiums and forum and made a number of reports on the results of IAEA inspections at Russian nuclear companies.

Particularly, in 2006 Rostekhnadzor and IAEA cooperated under a national project for enhancement of emergency preparedness at research plants. Rostekhnadzor took part in the development of a national project for improvement of quality management systems at nuclear power plants. “IAEA experts have approved this project and IAEA may finance it,” says the source.
