Rosenergoatom Concern has taken part in an exhibition organized in the framework of the 12th International Industrial Economic Forum “United Russia,” which took place in Nizhniy Novgorod on Sept 12–16.
Rosenergoatom presented information about the present situation in Russia’s nuclear power sector. Today, Russia has 31 nuclear power units. In 2006 the Russian NPPs produced 154.7bln KWh. In 2007 they are expected to generate 155.6bln KWh. The Russian NPPs are constantly improving their safety. In 2006 they recorded 42 incidents against 69 ones in 2005. Special attention is given to ecology. The plants are constantly monitoring their environment.
Rosenergoatom also presented innovative projects, for example, BN-800 reactor. The capacity of this reactor is 800 MW, estimated output — 6.5bln KWh, the lifespan — 40 years.
Among the other projects was NPP-2006 with WWER-1200 reactor, which is 15% stronger, produces 20% more electricity and serves for 67% more time and floating NPP with KLT-40C reactor, a project launched at Sevmash (Severodvinsk) in 2007 and to be finished in 2010. By 2016 Russia is going to have six floating NPPs.
During the exhibition the visitors were asked: “Should Russia develop nuclear power engineering?” Most of them – both youth and pensioners – answered “Yes.”
