IAEA highly rates Russia’s work to ensure nuclear and radiation safety
IAEA highly rates Russia’s compliance with nuclear and radiation safety, IAEA Deputy Director General Tomohiro Taniguchi said during a meeting with the head of the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Control Konstantin Pulikovsky.
In his turn, Pulikovsky told Taniguchi about Russia’s work to ensure the safety of its nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities. “We are open and conduct joint inspections with our foreign colleagues. Our NPPs are safe and our cooperation with IAEA helps us to further enhance their safety and to share our experience with other countries,” Pulikovsky said.
Taniguchi said that the Training Center in Obninsk is a good example of how one can effectively train nuclear and radiation safety specialists. He commended Rostekhnadzor for its plans to unify its safety standards for all sectors (construction, power engineering, industry, nuclear power engineering). He said that Japan has already done it but many countries have not. So, in this light, Russia’s experience might be quite important.
Taniguchi asked Pulikovsky about Russia’s programs against terrorism. He pointed out that Russia actively works to ensure the physical protection and non-proliferation of nuclear materials and he is very much grateful to Rosatom and Rostekhnadzor for that.
