Russia advocates further enhancement of IAEA’s role and authority

Russia advocates further enhancement of the role and authority of the International Atomic Energy Agency, organization that actively promotes international cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and strictly controls the non-proliferation regime, President of Russia Vladimir Putin says in his address to the participants in the 51st IAEA General Conference in Vienna.

The head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko read the address out during the conference.

The IAEA project on innovative reactors and nuclear cycles is one of the examples of successful cooperation between Russia and the Agency. Russia is inclined towards active practical work for creating a global nuclear energy infrastructure for all countries wishing to develop nuclear energy in compliance with the non-proliferation regime. International nuclear centers, including IAEA-controlled uranium enrichment facilities, will be the core of that structure. The first such center already exists in Russia.

Putin firmly believes that IAEA will continue fostering progress in the field of nuclear energy, developing advanced nuclear technologies and ensuring stability and safety in the world.
