Vice Speaker of State Duma: The establishment of Rosatom state corporation is an important step

“The developing industry of Russia is running short of energy.  The only solution to this problem is large-scale electrification of the country. The establishment of Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation will help us to consolidate our nuclear companies,” Vice Speaker of State Duma Vladimir Pekhtin said while commenting to journalists on the bill on the establishment of Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation approved by State Duma on Thursday.

“By 2020 the electricity production in Russia should be increased by 2/3. We are going to build new modernized nuclear power pants and to enlarge the infrastructure of the nuclear industry. In the coming 12 years we are planning to build 26 nuclear power units against 30 units built throughout the Soviet period,” Pekhtin said.

He pointed out that NPP construction is one of the most competitive sectors of the Russian economy. “This year we are planning to spend 18bln RUR for this purpose, while the whole program costs 1.5trl RUR. Such big investments will certainly give us big profits: we expect that in the coming 20–30 years the share of Russia in the world nuclear market will amount to $100bln. Our country is ready to cooperate with all countries for the sake of stable energy for whole humanity and for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes only, ” Pekhtin said.
