Head of Rosatom hopes that Europe will remove quotas on Russian services on its nuclear market

24.10.2007 // RIA Novosti

Head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko hopes that Europe will remove quotas on Russia services on its nuclear market

During the Moscow International Week conference in Moscow Kiriyenko said that Russia gives top priority to the problem of open access to the nuclear markets of the United States and Europe. “We seek equal access to our services in both the US and Europe,” Kiriyenko said. He reminded the audience that in Sept 2007 the US Court of International Trade lifted the antidumping duty on the Russian uranium supplies to the United States. “We also have a similar verdict by the European court,” Kiriyenko said.

To remind, this year the European Court has ruled that uranium enrichment is not a product but a service. Presently, Europe applies hidden quotas with respect to Russian uranium enrichment services, which limit their access to the European nuclear market.
