Sergey Kiriyenko: The structural reforms in Russia’s nuclear industry are supposed to be completed by Feb 2008

The process of formation of Atomenergoprom JSC is over. On Jan 1 2008 it will start operating at full capacity, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko said during the International Energy Week conference in Moscow.

“Presently, we are forming a Rosatom state corporation. I hope that in Dec the President will ratify the relevant law. The State Duma has already approved its first reading. The second reading is scheduled for Nov 9. So, we expect that by Jan-Feb 2008 the structural reforms in our industry will be finished,” Kiriyenko said.

He pointed out that one of the key legislative decisions of the past year was granting permission to private business entities, including foreigners, to own nuclear materials in the territory of the Russian Federation.
