First Vice Premier of Russia dispels concerns of the residents of Irkutsk region about the ecological situation in Angarsk
“In Irkutsk region there are enterprises that cause more damage to the environment that Angarsk Electrolytic Chemical Combine (AECC) does,” First Vice Premier of Russia Sergey Ivanov said during a press-conference in Angarsk.
“In response to the concerns of some local residents, I would like to say that no nuclear waste is supplied to Angarsk. Here, we have only raw materials. Believe me,” Ivanov said.
“Russia stores uranium in no worse conditions than the United States, the United Kingdom or France do. You can check it up,” Ivanov said.
He commended Rosatom for its transparency. “Rosatom was right to put the whole information about micro roentgens in the internet.” Ivanov pointed out that the natural radiation background in St.Petersburg and on Lake Baikal is higher than in the territory of AECC. “Simply, you should provide more information,” he said.
