Russian nuclear power engineers are ready to make contracts with Ural machine builders worth hundreds of millions of rubles

Rosatom is ready to make contracts with Ural machine building companies worth hundreds of millions of rubles, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko said after a meeting with the authorities of the Ural Federal District.

“The companies of the Ural Federal District have big capacities and huge potential (for participating in the program for the development of nuclear power engineering in Russia). I mean not only the companies related to nuclear energy but also machinery producers,” Kiriyenko said.

“We are ready to make contracts with them worth tens and even hundreds of millions of rubles provided that they are highly competitive and offer high quality and not very expensive products,” Kiriyenko said.

He pointed out that the local administration and the president’s regional office have a big role in the implementation of a number of nuclear projects.

“Without the active support of the president’s office and the local authorities, we would have failed to resume the construction of the 4th BN-800 unit of Beloyarsk NPP,” Kiriyenko said.

Among the other problems Rosatom has solved with the support of the local authorities are the recovery of the Techa cascade, the resettlement of the residents of the village of Muslumovo, the launch of new projects at Mayak Production Association and the decision to build a new nuclear power plant in Chelyabinsk region. “During the meeting we have discussed the problems related to the further development of Mayak and the other nuclear companies of the region,” Kiriyenko said.

Kiriyenko reminded that in the coming years Rosatom is planning to carry out a big number of projects to develop nuclear energy and to guarantee radiation safety. Almost 40% of the financing will be spent on radiation safety.

Kiriyenko stressed the importance of the meeting and further cooperation as some of the companies they spoke about during the meeting will join the vertically integrated Atomenergoprom holding. “The local companies have big capacities and reserves for actively participating in the nuclear energy development program,” Kiriyenko said.
