By the end of this year Atomstroyexport will sign the basic contract for the construction of Belene NPP in Bulgaria

By the end of this year Atomstroyexport will sign the basic contract for the construction of Belene Nuclear Power Plant in Bulgaria, says the press secretary of the company Irina Yesipova. The basic contract will regulate all of the company’s actions under the project.

The project is to be started in 2008 after the signing of the contract. The foundations of the plant are to be laid in 2009.

The general agreement signed by Atomstroyexport and the National Electric Company of Bulgaria in 2006 stipulates that the conceptual and technical projects and the basic contract should be ready by the end of 2007.

Presently, Atomstroyexport is waiting for the permission of the Ministry of Regional Development of Bulgaria.

Belene NPP will consist of two 1000MW units.

Atomstroyexport won the tender on Oct 31 2006.

Atomstroyexport is the leading Russian organization implementing inter-governmental contracts for the construction of nuclear power plants. The company’s share in the world NPP construction market makes up almost 20%.
