By 2020 China is going to redouble its nuclear power generating capacities

By 2020 China is going to redouble its nuclear power generating capacities, President of China National Nuclear Corporation Kang Rixin said during Rome World Energy Congress 2007.

He said that by 2020 the total capacity of the Chinese nuclear power plants will amount to 40mln KW. In the coming years China is going to spend 400bln yuan (over $53bln) to build 16 new nuclear power units.

Presently, China has 11 nuclear reactors, which generate 2% of the total electricity.
