Innovative products of nuclear companies must be quickly brought to medical centers

Innovative products of nuclear companies must be quickly brought to medical centers, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko said while opening the fair of high technologies for medicine “Atommed 2007.”

“Here, I have seen that our industry has unique capacities for developing medicine,” Kiriyenko said.

He pointed out that the projects submitted to the fair had been developed by the leaders of the Russian nuclear industry and were based on most innovative solutions.

“Our key problem is that, even though we have all segments of high technologies in our medical industry, we poorly commercialize them and are doing nothing to bring them together into one system and to offer it to national medical centers, ” Kiriyenko said.

The second task is to arrange serial production of our unique medical technologies. “We must bring all such technologies together into a single complex and offer finished medical services rather than raw technological solutions,” Kiriyenko said.

Kiriyenko said that Russian nuclear companies were ready to cooperate with their foreign counterparts but not in terms of supplying them with draft solutions. “We prefer cooperating on designing finished products and services,” he said.

Over 100 projects have been submitted to the fair. The projects have been examined by an expert jury as to their innovativeness, preparedness for application, economic appeal and competitiveness.

There were two expert groups: equipment and technologies for nuclear medicine and equipment and technologies for non-nuclear medicine. The groups comprised specialists from Roszdravnadzor (Russian Medical Control Service), N.V.Sklifosovsky Institute for Emergency Medical Aid, Sechenov Medical Academy (Moscow), Russian Cardiological Complex, Medical Radiology Center, Health Care Department of Russian Railways, MedSi, Association of Experts of Atom Innovation Center and some Moscow medical universities. The experts specialized in radiation bio-physics, radio-pharmaceutics, cardiology, roentgenology, tomography, restorative medicine, medical equipment.

The best projects will be recommended to the Venture Fund for possible financing and commercialization.
