First Vice Premier of Russia has visited Izhora Plants

The construction of large capacity 120-ton arc steelmaking furnace has been started at Izhora Plants (St.Petersburg) today.

First Vice Premier of Russia Sergey Ivanov, Governor of St.Petersburg Valentina Matviyenko and Head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko attended the ceremony.

The new furnace is designed to make steel for large components (70–140 tons) to be, particularly, used for the production of equipment for nuclear reactors. At the initial stage, the furnace is supposed to produce 250,000 tons of steel a year. Its full capacity is 650,000 tons.

This project is part of OMZ’s large-scale plans for development of special steel business. OMZ is planning to modernize its steelmaking production, to re-equip its forge and press complexes and to reconstruct its foundry production. In 2008 the company is planning to invest almost 2bln RUR in this program.
