Russia and Canada will jointly prospect uranium deposits
Russia is going to cooperate with Canada in prospecting uranium deposits, says the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko.
“We have signed an agreement with Canadian Cameco Corporation, the world’s N1 in uranium mining. That company has unique technologies for prospecting uranium and we have all grounds to say that Russia does have uranium deposits.”
Cameco will search for deposits in the Russian territory and if it finds uranium, the sides will start to jointly mine it.
“If we find a deposit, we will have more uranium and will be able to diversify its supplies.”
For this purpose, the sides are planning to establish joint ventures in Russia and Canada.
Besides, Rosatom has signed an agreement with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited. One of the possible spheres of cooperation is design of reactors of fourth generation.
“Now that nuclear energy is experiencing global renaissance, we have good prospects for cooperation,” says Kiriyenko.
