On Dec 3 2007 Director General of Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK) Jukka Laaksonen visited the Crisis Center of Rosenergoatom Concern
The guest was accompanied by Technical Director of Rosenergoatom Concern Nikolay Sorokin, Deputy Head of the Crisis Center Boris Pivnenko and representatives of Rostekhnadzor and VNIIAES.
Laaksonen inspected the Crisis Center and its equipment.
Sorokin told him about the work of the Center. He said that the Center was set up in the early 1990s and is an effective instrument of NPP operation.
Pivnenko showed Laaksonen how the Center communicates with nuclear power plants and technical support centers and the guest spoke real time with representatives of Leningrad and Kola NPPs, Rosatom Crisis Center, Typhoon SPA, Nuclear Safety Institute, NIKIET.
Laaksonen pointed out that the Rosenergoatom Crisis Center helps Russia to substantially enhance the safety of its nuclear power plants. “You must be proud of it. I am impressed. And this is not your only achievement. The Personnel Training Center of Leningrad NPP is something incredible. No country in the world has such a center,” Laaksonen said.
He pointed out that such systems should be disseminated in the countries wishing to develop nuclear energy.
The cooperation agreement between Rosenergoatom Concern FSUE and the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK) was signed on Sept 23 2005. This document is aimed at enhancing the safety of the Russian nuclear power plants, first of all, Kola and Leningrad NPPs.
