10.12.2007 // Press service of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy

All irradiated fuel assemblies of Russian manufacture used by Rez research reactor (the Czech Republic) have been taken away

All 549 irradiated fuel assemblies of Russian manufacture used by the research reactor of Nuclear Research Institute Rez (the Czech Republic) have been taken away to Rosatom processing companies for temporary storage and reprocessing. The radioactive waste produced as a result of the reprocessing of the fuel assemblies will be returned to the territory of the Czech Republic.

This project is part of the Russian-US Russian Research Reactor Fuel Return program (RRRFR, May 272004).

The fuel is transported in containers specially produced by Skoda company (the Czech Republic) for the RRRFR program.

The money received as a result of this project will be spent on the ecological program for the recovery of contaminated areas of the Techa River basin near the village of Muslumovo and contaminated sections of the territory of Mayak Production Association (Chelyabinsk region).
