Agreement with IAEA on International Uranium Enrichment Center in Angarsk is almost ready and will be signed soon
The agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency on the International Uranium Enrichment Center in Angarsk is almost ready and will be signed soon, says the deputy head of Rosatom Nikolay Spassky.
“The International Uranium Enrichment Center is already a reality,” Spassky said during the conference on the 50th anniversary of IAEA. “Today, we are considering the formula of IAEA’s participation in the work of the center. The agreement with the agency is almost ready and we may sign it as early as the beginning of 2008,” Spassky said.
“Our Center will become the first in the chain of such centers worldwide – centers that will solve not only the problem of uranium enrichment but many other crucial problems of the nuclear energy sphere,” Spassky said.
Spassky believes that the only way to create an actually effective instrument for control over nonproliferation is voluntary additional measures under Nonproliferation Treaty – measures that will create a basis for a global system of nonproliferation control. And the International Uranium Enrichment Center in Angarsk is the first step towards this goal.
