This year Techsnabexport (Tenex) has increased its export of enriched uranium products by over 1/3 to $1bln, the director general of the company Aleksey Grigoryev said today during the conference dedicated to the 40th anniversary of TsNIIATOMINFORM.
He did not give exact figures but said that the above dynamics did not include the supply of low-enriched uranium to the United States under the HEU-LEU agreement. Grigoryev said that in 2007 the portfolio of enriched uranium export contracts grew by 15%.
He pointed out that the export of Russian enriched uranium had almost the same influence on the world energy balance as the export of Russian gas and oil did.
Presently, after the lifting of antidumping sanctions, Russia and the United States have drafted an amendment to the agreement for the delivery of Russian uranium to the US. Grigoryev explained that now Russia can supply the US with all types of uranium products rather than just enrichment services. The supply of enriched uranium to the US may start before the expiry of the HEU-LEU agreement and the new contracts will not depend on changes in the US’ antidumping policies.
Russia is going to continue developing its centrifuge technologies. For this purpose, it will consolidate all relevant companies into one holding and will make it part of its nuclear industry.
