On Dec 18 a delegation of Rosatom left for China to attend the official launch of the 1st and 2nd units of Tianwan NPP
The press service of Atomstroyexport company, the general contractor of the project, reports that the delegation is led by the deputy head of Rosatom Ivan Kamenskikh and comprises the president of Atomstroyexport CJSC Sergey Shmatko and the directors of the Russian companies involved in the project.
The spokeswoman of Atomstroyexport Irina Yesipova says that the ceremony will take place in Lianyungang (Jiangsu province) and at Tianwan NPP.
Before departure Shmatko said that both units were already operating at a full capacity as de facto the 1st unit was commissioned on June 2 2007 and the 2nd one on Sept 12 2007.
Shmatko said that the Russian party had carried out work worth $1.340bln. One KWh of the electricity produced by the 1st unit of Tianwan NPP costs $1,600-$1,800.
The plant has two WWER-1000 reactors. The reactors are very safe and have the most modern safety systems based on the principle of deeply echeloned protection. Experts have already recognized Tianwan as the safest nuclear power plants in the world.
The construction of Tianwan NPP is Russia’s first large-scale project after a ten-year pause. Tianwan is the biggest NPP in China and the biggest joint project carried out by Russia and China so far.
The press service of Atomstroyexport says that the company may build the 3rd and 4th units too.
