Both units of Tianwan NPP are operating safely and efficiently, the deputy head of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy Ivan Kamenskikh said during the official launch of the 1st and 2nd units of Tianwan NPP, today.

“Russian and Chinese specialists have jointly built the safest nuclear power plants in China. This is a good basis for further cooperation,” Kamenskikh said.

He pointed out that the parties had already confirmed their intention to develop their cooperation under the project and to jointly build the 3rd and 4th units of the plant.

Vice Premier of China Zeng Peiyan said that Russia and China had brilliant prospects in the field of nuclear energy. The launch of the first two units of Tianwan NPP is a historic stage in the development of the Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. Tianwan NPP is the biggest project of the Russian-Chinese economic-technical cooperation. “This project is very important for our cooperation as it has given us experience and competence,” Peiyan said.

He pointed out that the Russian and Chinese specialists set up lots of records during the project. There were some problems but all of them were resolved. “Now, it is necessary to focus on control and safety. Our goal is to make Tianwan the safest and best nuclear power plant in the world. Quality and safety are our priorities,” Peiyan said.

The launching ceremony was attended by a delegation of Rosatom led by the deputy head of the agency Ivan Kamenskikh.
