Dam #11 of Techa Cascade reinforced

16.01.2008 // Press service of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy

The project to reinforce dam #11 of Techa Reservoir Cascade (Mayak PA, Chelyabinsk region) was completed in late 2007

Now, the dam is safe.

The inspection of the dam in early 2000s showed that there were leaks in its upper part, which might cause drain and deformation.

In Dec 2005 Rosatom decided to reinforce the dam.

A 1.8 km long and 7–13 m deep wall was built inside the body of the dam in 2006–2007. Now the dam is safe and there is no more threat of its deformation or destruction.

Rosatom has spent 210mln RUR on the project.

The next stage of the program to enhance the safety of the Mayak PA area is the construction of a combined sewer system by 2009. In 2006–2007 Rosatom spent 2bln RUR on the program, in 2008–2015 it is planning to spend 17bln RUR more in the framework of the federal target program for nuclear and radiation safety.
