Address of General Inspector of Rosenergoatom Concern

02.04.2008 // Press service of Rosenergoatom Concern

General Inspector of Rosenergoatom Concern Erik Pozdyshev urges employees of the Concern to comply with labor protection rules

Dear friends, dear colleagues,

I would like to urge all workers, engineers, heads of departments of Rosenergoatom Concern in connection with the onset of the maintenance campaign 2008.

Practice shows that most of on-site injuries and accidents happen during maintenance campaigns.

Unfortunately, in 2005 and 2006 we had several accidents and two of them claimed the lives of our friends and colleagues. We grieve their deaths and are doing all we can to prevent such accidents.

Last year, thank God, we had no single accident.

This year we have lot of work to do and I urge you to redouble your efforts to keep this level and to avoid accidents.

I am absolutely sure that on-site safety depends on each worker: fitter, operator, chief engineer. My recipe is simple, it is based on my many-year experience:

— Before starting some work or assigning it to another person, stop for a moment and ask yourself once again: IS IT SAFE?

— And if you are not 100% sure that it is safe, don’t start it! Think it over once again!

— Strictly observe labor protection rules and operation and maintenance requirements and urge your colleagues to do the same!

— If some rule or requirement cannot be observed, for some objective reasons, start your work only after revising it or working out some special procedure!

SAY “NO” TO HASTE! GIVE PRIORITY TO SAFETY OVER URGENCY!

I would like you to know that however hard and complex it might be to operate a nuclear power plant, our key priority and value is your health and life!

I urge you to always remember that it is very hard – AND SOMETIMES IMPOSSIBLE — to regain lost health!

— Take care, care for your colleagues and friends!

— Remember that your wives, children and friends wait for you at home. They want you to be healthy and safe. Beware of hasty careless actions that might cause harm to you and grief to your families!

I wish you safe work!

Erik Pozdyshev
