Leningrad NPP is increasing capacity of 3rd unit and preparing 4th unit for restart
Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant (branch of Rosenergoatom Concern, Leningrad region) continues to gradually increase the capacity of the 3rd unit after its overhaul and modernization. The head of the Production Department of Leningrad NPP Yuri Nefyodov says that presently the unit is operating at a capacity of 950MW.
On May 21 morning the plant is planning to restart its 4th unit, which was stopped on May 18 for a short-term maintenance.
Presently, units 1, 2 and 3 units of Leningrad NPP are operating safely at a total capacity of 2,980MW.
To remind, the overhaul and modernization of the 3rd unit was started on July 20 2007 and finished on May 8 2008. Presently, the plant is preparing for the modernization of the 4th unit.

Since Apr 1 2002 Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant has been a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern.
The plant has four 1,000MW units with RBMK type reactors (graphite-moderated reactors). The lives of the 1st and 2nd units have been extended for 15 years. The lives of the 3rd and 4th units are supposed to be extended for 20 years.
In 2007 Leningrad NPP generated a total of 24.633bln KWh against 23.178bln KWh in 2006. The capacity factor made up 70.3% against 66.2% in 2006. In 2008 the plant is supposed to produce 29.4bln KWh.
