Armenian nuclear power engineers study the unique experience of Kola NPP

For two week a group of specialists of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (Armenia) will be working in the Centralized Maintenance Department of Kola Nuclear Power Plant. The guests from the only NPP in the South Caucasus are mostly interested in the plant’s unique experience of maintenance and repair of reactor and turbine equipment, especially in the use of graphite gaskets for flanges of first-circuit steam generators.

This technology is used at almost all nuclear power plants of Russia. This method is very simple: the gaskets are made of multi-layer reinforced graphite foil and are very durable with high compressive strength, high heat resistance and low permeability relative to fluids. Graphite gaskets allow reducing load on steam generator and prolonging their lifespan.

They at Armenian NPP also want to achieve such a result by replacing outdated nickel gaskets by modern graphite ones. During the visit the guests will get detailed information about the use of graphite gaskets as well as will study the plant’s experience of repairing condensers, pressure compensators, heat exchange control tubes of steam generator and their stoppage by means of automatic systems.
