Volgodonsk NPP has undergone nuclear safety inspection

On May 23 a commission of Rosenergoatom Concern completed its nuclear safety inspection of Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant. Such inspections are carried out once in two years.

The inspection lasted for four days. The experts inspected the reactor, the electric equipment, the automated control systems, the water chemistry system, the procedures for storage and transportation of nuclear fuel and training of personnel. Special attention was paid to timely detection of deficiencies and implementation of necessary corrective measures.

While summing up the preliminary results of the inspection the head of the Inspection Department of Rosenergoatom Concern Oleg Zhirkov said that Volgodonsk NPP complied with all nuclear safety standards. “I would love to work at such a safe plant,” he said.

“Volgodonsk NPP has successfully passed the OSART mission but you should not relax and should continue to improve your work. Once a person stops developing he begins degrading. That’s why I would like to wish Volgodonsk NPP further development,” ZHrikov said.

He pointed out that the plant had excellent prospects in terms of the construction of the 2nd unit and more reactors. Volgodonsk NPP should develop its human resources both qualitatively and quantitatively. Zhrikov is sure that the plant will successfully solve all of its tasks.
