Specialists of Kalinin NPP share experience with their Ukrainian colleagues

On May 27–29 Kalinin NPP is hosting a meeting between radioactive waste treatment specialists of Kalinin NPP and Ukrainian nuclear power plants

The meeting is part of the cooperation program of Rosenergoatom Concern and the National Nuclear Power Company of Ukraine «Energoatom.»

Representatives of Rosenergoatom Concern, Energoatom and SverdNIIKhimmash (SVERD) are taking part in the conference.

The key objective of the visit of the Ukrainian colleagues is to get information about the technical parameters of the radioactive waste burning system.

The acting director of Kalinin NPP Mikhail Kanyshev welcomed the guests and pointed out the importance of effective treatment of radioactive waste for both Russian and Ukrainian nuclear power plants: «Kalinin NPP has good experience in this sphere and we hope that our knowledge will be useful for you.»

The sides are planning to discuss a wide range of problems related to disposal of radioactive waste, to hear reports and to exchange experience. The head of the Decontamination Department of Kalinin NPP Nikolay Ivanov made a report on treatment of radioactive waste. He told the Ukrainian guests about the measures carried out by Kalinin NPP for reducing radioactive waste and the plant’s plans for further improving its radioactive waste treatment system.

The Ukrainian guests have visited the solid radioactive waste storage facility.

The director of department of Energoatom Vasily Belousov said: «We are very much interested in your achievements in the sphere and the technologies you use for treating radioactive waste. We would also like to tell you about our projects and plans. I think that we should consider the possibility of starting joint projects. This will help us to solve the existing problems. Effective treatment of radioactive waste is crucial for our safety and progress. It is our life and the future of our children.»
