“Clean nature”

29.05.2008 // Information Department of Leningrad NPP

On June 7 2008 Leningrad NPP is conducting an ecological clean-up action

The action will take place in the water area of Kopora Bay and along the shore of the Gulf of Finland, including the banks of Kovash, the territory of the beach near Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant and the territory of the seashore park along the banks of Glukhovka.

This action is part of the regional ecological campaign “Clean Cities and Villages” launched in Apr 2007 by decree of the governor of Leningrad region V.Serdukov.

Besides, June 1 is the Children’s Day. So, the clean-up will be one more chance for the adults to take care for the nature surrounding their children. Our children have right to live in clean environment: in clean cities, amid clean woods, on clean seashores.

Such actions have been conducted in Europe for many years already. Russia – particularly, Nizhniy Novgorod, Yekaterniburg, Sakhalin as well as Kalinin and Volgodonsk NPPs — joined them a few years ago. Leningrad NPP is also in by conducting ecological actions in the territory of its satellite city, Sosnovy Bor.

It will be a unique action: the organizers are planning to clean up not only the shore of the Gulf of Finland but also part of its bottom. The local diving clubs will help them to do it. The director general of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko is also expected to take part in the action just like he did before.

The action has one more peculiarity: all the bonuses earned during the clean-up will be spent on the organization of a concert and firework for the participants.
