Directorate for Construction of Leningrad NPP-2 comments the signing of the contract with Power Machines
On May 28 Moscow Atomenergoprom OJSC signed a contract with Power Machines OJSC for the supply of turbine equipment for Leningrad NPP-2. Power Machines will also supply turbines to Novovoronezh NPP-2. The total cost of the contracts is over 40bln RUR.
When asked to comment on the signing of the contract, the deputy director of Leningrad NPP-2 I.Mescheryakov said that it was an important stage of the project. “Power Machines have big experience in the production of turbine equipment. That’s why we initially planned to purchase equipment from a local producer, namely, Power Machines.”
According to the contract, the first lot of condensers and low-pressure heaters will be supplied in Aug 2010, turbine generator by May 2011. High-speed steam turbines and turbine generators with a capacity of 1,200MW have been designed by Power Machines in the framework of the NPP-2006 project and are meant for the new generation of nuclear reactors.

The construction of LNPP-2 is part of the federal target program for the development of the energy industry of Russia 2007–2015 approved by the Government of the Russian Federation on Oct 5 2006.
On Aug 30 the speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko and the governor of Leningrad region Valery Serdukov officially launched the LNPP-2 project.
On Sept 12 Rostekhnadzor granted licenses for deployment of the 1st and 2nd units of Leningrad NPP-2.
In 2008 the Government is planning to allocate 6bln RUR for the project. The total cost of the project is almost 70bln RUR.
The project was approved by the public and is presently being considered by the Chief State Inspection.
The project is analogous to the units built by Russian specialists at Tianwan NPP in China – WWER-1000.
The 1st unit is to be launched in 2013.
Atomenergoprom OJSC (Atomny Energopromyshleny Kompleks) is a state holding that is supposed to comprise 89 nuclear companies and to cover the whole range of nuclear services: from uranium mining to NPP construction and electricity production. Atomenergoprom’s companies will have a total of 175,000 employees and an annual production of 200bln RUR (5.5bln EUR). Atomenergoprom is one of the biggest players on the world market: it has a 40% share in the world’s uranium enrichment services, 17% in nuclear fuel production, 8% in uranium mining, 28% in NPP construction (10 reactors). The director of Atomenergoprom is Vladimir Travin, the chairman of the board of directors – Sergey Kiriyenko.
