Labor Protection Day at Leningrad NPP

30.05.2008 // Information Department of Leningrad NPP

On May 29 Leningrad NPP conducted labor protection day

The head of the Labor Protection Department of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant Oleg Yun and the heads of the concerned departments reported to the top management of the plant about the execution of the decisions made during the April labor protection conference.

In May a commission of Leningrad NPP inspected three departments — the radioactive waste treatment department, the radiation technologies department and the radiation safety department – to see if they complied with the labor protection and fire security rules.

The members of the commission — the head of the Labor Protection Department Oleg Yun, the head of the Department for Control of Facilities and Fire Security Andrey Komissarov and the senior engineer of the operation group of the Production Department Irina Gorchakova — presented their findings. The heads of the abovementioned departments told the commissioners what they had done to remove the detected deficiencies.

The Radiation Safety Department, which split from the Labor Protection Department as a result of reorganization in Mar 1 2007, was inspected for the first time. The acting head of the department Sergey Petrov said that all the workplaces of the department were certified and the personnel were trained according to the plan. He thanked the commission for their fruitful inspection and promised to make necessary improvements as quickly as possible.

The Occupational Health and Safety Management system of Leningrad NPP envisages regular inspections of the plant’s department. The heads of departments are responsible for the health and safety of their subordinates and carry out regular monitorings of their work. Yun presented the results of the May monitoring. The deputy chief engineer for maintenance Sergey Kovalyov pointed out that all the deficiencies detected by the commission had been removed. He said that fire security was the key component of the labor protection system. “We must have no problems with fire security. So, I urge you to strictly comply with the relevant rules,” he said.

Leningrad NPP gives high priority to labor protection day and conducts them regularly under the chairmanship of its director V.Lebedev.
