01.07.2008 // PR Department of Rosatomstroy ICC
On June 30 2008 a group of members of the Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk region visited the construction site of Zheleznogorsk TPP
They were accompanied by representatives of the authorities of Krasnoyarsk region and Zheleznogorsk and journalists. The key topic of the meeting was the course of the construction of Zheleznogorsk Thermal Power Plant.
The director of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Rosatomstroy Investment Construction Concern Valery Poylov told the guests about the project. The parties discussed the problems related to the construction of the plant and the allocation of additional funds from the federal and regional budgets for the laying of a heating main.
The parties pointed out that the construction of Zheleznogorsk TPP was crucial for the energy system of Kranoyarsk region and that despite certain problems it enjoyed all-out support on the part of the regional authorities.
In order to enhance the efficiency of the construction, in June the management of Rosatomstroy revised the mechanism of personnel recruitment. The concern has decided to create own jobs at the construction site and to recruit specialists from local cities. This is supposed to enhance the quality control and strengthen the human resources at the construction site.
The representatives of Rosatomstroy said that the construction was carried out according to the schedule with the financing provided in time.
The representatives of Rosatomstroy informed the deputies that some regional mass media were spreading unverified information about the construction of Zheleznogorsk TPP thereby damaging the image of the project in the eyes of the local population. “We are open for both the mass media and the public and are ready to cooperate with government and public organizations. Ask questions and we will answer them,” Poylov said.
The deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Kranoyarsk region Mikhail Vasilyev said: “The construction of Zheleznogorosk TPP is a socially significant project for the whole region and we must jointly decide how to attract additional financing and who will operate the plant.”
Note
The construction of Zheleznogorsk coal-fired power plant is part of Seversk Plutonium Production Elimination Project. The objective of that project is the refurbishment of the existing fossil fuel plant and the shutdown of the two remaining plutonium production reactors in Seversk by 2008.
The parties to the project are Rosatomstroy, Washington Group International Inc and Siberian Group of Chemical Plants.
Raytheon Company has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to oversee the project.
