Almost 300,000 c m of earth have been taken from the construction site of Leningrad NPP-2 to other sites
The Directorate fort the Construction of Leningrad NPP-2 (Leningrad region, the branch of Rosenergoatom Concern) has calculated the amount of earth removed from the construction site since the beginning of the project to dig the foundation pit of the 1st unit of LNPP-2.
The head of the Quality Management and Licensing Department of the Directorate for the Construction of Leningrad NPP-2 A.Shevchenko says that, on the instruction of Rospotrebnadzor, the Directorate has taken all necessary measures to obtain licenses for the soil accumulated at the construction site of Leningrad NPP-2.
“We have already prepared technical specifications for the technogenic recultivation soil accumulated at the construction site, have submitted them for examination. have received positive resolution from the St.Petersburg Hygiene and Epidemiology Center and have obtained Rospotrebnadzor’s sanitary-epidemiological resolution confirming the compliance of the documents to the national sanitary-epidemiological rules and standards. The technical specifications and the technogenic recultivation soil have been registered by Rostest.”
The information about the positive resolutions have been included in the register of sanitary-epidemiological resolutions on compliance of types of activity, products and project documents to the requirements of the national sanitary0epidemiological rules and standards and placed on http://fp.crc.ru.
The deputy director for capital construction of the Directorate for the Construction of Leningrad NPP-2 A.Garusov says that almost 300,000 c m of earth have been taken from the construction site of Leningrad NPP-2 to other sites in Sosnovy Bor for use as intermediate insulating neutral layer for burial of solid domestic waste in the local dump as well as for recultivation of damaged soil of used quarries and other area planning and stabilization projects.
545 people, 200 vehicles and 107 special systems are involved in the construction of Leningrad NPP-2. 6 contractor organizations work three-shift, two organizations – two-shift.

The construction of LNPP-2 is part of the federal target program for the development of the energy industry of Russia 2007–2015 approved by the Government of the Russian Federation on Oct 5 2006.
On Aug 30 the speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko and the governor of Leningrad region Valery Serdukov officially launched the LNPP-2 project.
On Sept 12 Rostekhnadzor granted licenses for deployment of the 1st and 2nd units of Leningrad NPP-2.
In 2008 the Government is planning to allocate 6bln RUR for the project. The total cost of the project is almost 70bln RUR.
The project was approved by the public and is presently being considered by the Chief State Inspection.
The project is analogous to the units built by Russian specialists at Tianwan NPP in China – WWER-1000.
The 1st unit is to be launched in 2013.
On June 24 Rostekhnadzor granted Rosenergoatom Concern a license for construction of 1st unit of Leningrad NPP-2
The general contractor of the project is St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt. The company was established on Sept 1 1929. Since then the institute has built and launched over 90 power plants (thermal, nuclear, gas turbine power plants) with 439 turbine generators and a total capacity of 29.73mln KW. SPBAEP has designed 27 power plants with a total capacity of 14.976mln KWh in Poland, Vietnam, Cuba, Egypt, North Korea, Algeria, Croatia, Iraq, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, China, including 9 nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 9.55mln KWh.
Presently, the institute is designing the 4th unit (BN-800 (fast-breeder) reactor) for Beloyarsk NPP, machine compartment of the 1st unit of Bushehr NPP in Iran (WWER-1000 reactor), Leningrad NPP-2 (WWER-1200 reactors – here the institute acts as the general designer and general contractor), South-Western TPP in St.Petersburg. The institutes is also participating in the modernization and extension of the life of units of Kola, Beloyarks, Kursk, Smolensk, Leningrad NPPs and the reconstruction of TPP-15 of Lenenergo, Norilsk TPP and other thermal power plants in Russia
