On July 5 the 2nd unit of Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant will be stopped of mid-term (45-day) scheduled maintenance.

A total of 4,892 operations will be carried out at the unit during the maintenance: refueling, testing and repair of reactor and turbine equipment, etc.

The acting deputy chief engineer for maintenance Vitaly Trutnev says that they are also planning to modernize some systems: to replace technological protection systems, to upgrade turbine regulation system, to replace automated turbine generator control system. All these measures are aimed at enhancing the safety of the unit.

1,810 people from the maintenance department of Kalinin NPP as well as from Atomnergoremont and other contractor organizations will take part in the maintenance.

“Our task is clear: to carry out the maintenance of the 2nd unit in time and at high quality.” Presently, all the three units of Kalinin NPP are in service. They are operating safely and efficiently. The radiation background at he plant and in its nearby area is within 6–14 micro roentgen/hour.
