Kola NPP has been granted a license for operation of its 1st unit
On July 4 2008 Rosenergoatom Concern has received Rostekhnadzor’s license for the operation of he 1st unit of Kola Nuclear Power Plant. The license is valid till July 6 2018.
In June 2003 the life of the 1st unit was extended for 15 years due to consistent modernization work carried out by Kola NPP since 1990: assessment of the efficiency of the extension of the life of the 1st unit, complex inspection, modernization and substitution of equipment, deep safety analysis. As a result, the Concern was granted a five-year license.
The program was carried out in line with the requirements of the current legislation, the federal rules and standards in the field of use of nuclear energy and with due regard for the recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the international experience in assessing the safety and in managing the service life of NPPs.
In the past five years the 1st unit of Kola NPP has proved its efficiency and safety. That’s why the license has been prolonged.
