In June 2008 the radiation situation in the Balakovo NPP area was within norm
The daily emission of neutral radioactive gases (isotopes of argon, krypton and xenon) and radioactive iodine-131 was at zero level.
The radiation situation in the nearby waters was as follows: beta radiation in Volga River made up 0.049 Bq/l, in the plant’s cooling pond – 0.180 Bq/l
• the content of cesium-137 – less than 0.012 Bq/l in both the river and the cooling pond (with the admissible level being 11 Bq/l)
• the content of potassium-40 – 0.04 Bq/l in Volga and 0.2 Bq/l in the cooling pond (with the norm being 22 Bq/l).
The gamma radiation at the plant and in the nearby area (30-km zone) was within safe 0.06–0.1 microSv/h.
