APCS (Automatic Process Control System) of the 3rd unit of Kalinin NPP should become the basis for the NPP-2006 APCS project

Specialists of the concern, Kalinin NPP (KNPP), Rostekhkontrol and design institutes have discussed the results of the commercial operation of the APCS of the 3rd unit of KNPP, the problems of the project technical support and design supervision, the course of fulfillment of the decisions of the previous meetings on the subject.

Besides, the conferees discussed the expediency of the use of the Kalinin-3 APCS as a basis for the project of serial APCS for the NPP-2006.

The deputy head of the thermal mechanization and calculation department Anatoly Shuvayev made a report on the elimination of the remarks contained in the protocols, operational inspection resolutions and regulatory license requirements. He pointed out that the KNPP personnel has done a lot to optimize the control processes and to raise the plant’s automation level.

The deputy director general of the branch of the All-Russian Research Russian for NPP ACPS Oleg Bozhenkov told the conferees about the basic principles of the project of ACPS, its structure and main characteristics. “3 years and 8 months passed from the adoption of the decision on the development of the system to its launch. This is a quite short period for a first-time project,” Bozhenkov said.

Bozhenkov used the “first-time” phrase throughout his report. He said that this is a new system based on new generation software, particularly, on the method of display control from an automated workstation. The designers used new principles of ACSP control, with priority given to NPP safety and protection. Great attention was given to diagnostics. Low-level automation technology was replaced by programmable digitized hardware.

In conclusion, the reporter noted that the system is efficient and complies with the modern technical standards: “The solutions used in operating the ACSP of the 3rd unit of KNPP should become a basis for further serial production. In developing the project of serial ACSP production for the NNP-2006 we should preserve the structure and the sub-systems of this particular ACSP,” Bozhenkov said.

He noted that the basic technical solutions of the Kalinin system can be applied in developing the Rostov-2 and Kalinin-4 ACSPs.
