Balakovskaya NPP develops cooperation with Zaporizhia NPP

Specialists of Zaporizhia NPP (Ukraine) paid a visit to Balakovskaya NPP Dec 11–15

This is the second such visit in the framework of direct cooperation between Rosenergoatom and Energoatom (Ukraine). Balakovskaya NPP specialists have also paid two visits Zaporizhia.

The sides discussed a number of problems concerning production process, shared experience in organizing technological process control and operational security, training personnel. They pointed out that mutual contacts will help them to raise security and stability of their NPPs.

«Even though we live in different states, our approaches to NPP operation are similar,» senior control expert of Zaporizhia NPP Viktor Koltunov. «We have common priorities. We both give priority to security in line with the highest international standards. During the visit we have come to a conclusion that we can exchange experience and gain knowledge only through personal contacts.»

The sides outlined the directions of cooperation in 2007. The projects will cover secure, stable and effective operation and efficiency.

Zaporizhia NPP is the biggest NPP in Europe. It has 6 units 1 MW each with VVER-1000 reactors (put into operation in 1984–1995). Balakovskaya NPP has 4 VVER-1000 reactors and is the biggest electricity producer in Russia. The 6th unit of Zaporizhia NPP and the 4th unit of Balakovskaya NPP were the first nuclear power units built in Ukraine and Russia after the formation of the CIS.
