A Coordinating Council for Ecological Education and Professional Orientation of the Youth has been set up at Smolenskaya NPP

A Coordinating Council for Ecological Education and Professional Orientation of the Youth has been set up at Smolenskaya NPP. The Council comprises senior technical experts of the NPP, the specialists of the Information Center, veterans of the plant, teachers of the town of Desnogorsk. The Chairman of the Council is Deputy Chief Engineer for Safety of the NPP Alexander Parshin.

Ecological education is one of the key subjects at Desnogorsk high schools. During lessons and various extracurricular events pupils learn about the basic principles of safe NPP operation and get information about radiation background and ecological activities.

On Dec 15 the Information Center of Smolenskaya NPP held a regular conference in the framework of «Energy of the Future,» an international competition of scientific-educational projects involving schoolchildren, teachers of  Desnoigorsk and specialists of the SNPP.

The conferees examined the subjects for school reports and essays: «Nature and Techno-Sphere,» «Radiation and Life,» «Biological Impact of Radiation,» «Nuclear Power Engineering of the Future.»

Deputy Director for Personnel Management Anatoly Terletsky noted: «We are glad that schoolchildren are interested in the problems and achievements of the nuclear power sector. This will help them not only to widen their outlook but also to choose their future profession.»
