Chepetsk Mechanical Plant is 60 years old

On Dec 19 one of the leading enterprises of the TVEL corporation and the Russian nuclear power sector, Chepetsk Mechanical Plant (Glazov, Udmurtia), marked its 60th anniversary. President of the Republic of Udmurtia A. Volkov, Acting President of TVEL A. Badenkov, First Vice President V. Rozhdenstvensky, Vice President of TVEL, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CMP L. Sokolov were present at the celebrations in Glazov.

Acting President of TVEL A. Badenkov congratulated the plant on its jubilee. He said: «Today the CMP is one of the key links in the TVEL production cycle. The plant effectively solves its tasks for releasing components used for the production of highly competitive and safe nuclear fuel. I am sure that the professionalism of the plant’s personnel and their adherence to traditions and devotion to their work is pledge of the plant’s success for the benefit of the Russian nuclear power sector. I wish you health, happiness, welfare and may all of your plans come true.»

The CMP is the only in Russia and one of the three biggest world producers of articles from zirconium and its alloys. It is the key link of the nuclear fuel production chain. The plant was established on Dec 19 1946 by a decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on the basis of the ammunition factory. In early Nov 1948 the plant produced the first lot of uranium products. The first phase of uranium production was launched in 1950.
