FNTPP project carried out according to schedule

20.12.2006 // Press service of Rosenergoatom

The project for the construction of floating nuclear thermal power plants (FNTPP) was discussed during a conference on Dec 20.

The conference was chaired by Director General of Rosenergoatom Sergey Obozov and Head of Rosenergoatom’s Directorate for FNTPP Projects Sergey Krysov and attended by representatives of the contractor organizations involved in the project.

The conferees noted that the project is being carried out according to the schedule.

Obozov noted that all financial commitments for this and coming years are being fulfilled.

The financing for 2007 makes up 2.609bln RUR.

The conferees noted that 2007 will be crucial for the project. The contractor organizations have been instructed to produce and assemble all necessary materials and units for the plant within a year. The timely launch of the project (in 2010) depends on how quickly and effective they will fulfill their tasks. During 2008 the contractors will assemble and test the plant’s units. As of now, they have prepared the site at Sevmash where in Apr 2007 they will lay the first two ship sections.

Special attention was given to the safety of the plant and the necessity to ensure tough control over the quality of the plant units throughout their production and assembly.

The conferees also discussed the problem of personnel training. Presently, the sides to the project have coordinated a three-stage system of personnel training: developing methodology, designing and constructing a simulator, selecting personnel. Rosenergoatom will set up own training center in Severodvinsk, the Severodvinsk branch of the St. Petersburg Korabelny Institute will work out manuals and theory programs, while the Kurchatov Institute will organize special training courses.

While commenting on the results of the conference, Director General of Rosenergoatom Sergey Obozov said: “The key result is that the project has got underway. As of now, we have made all advance allocations to machine builders so they start installing long-cycle equipment. Acting President of TVEL OJSC Anton Badenkov has helped to solve all the problems concerning nuclear fuel and we thank him very much. On Dec 8 we started detailed engineering at the Sevmash production association. In a few days we are to sign a decision on new normative basis with Gostehnadzor (Technical Inspection). In Feb we will start cutting iron and in mid Apr we are planning to lay the vessel at Sevmash ways.”

All the participants in the conference – Kaluga Turbine Plant, Afrikanov OKBM, Avrora, Izhorsk Plants, Baltiysky Plant – confirmed that the work is underway.

Note:

Rosenergoatom’s program for FNTPP building is well underway. The first bloc will be laid in Apr 2007 at Sevmash plant in Severodvisnk, Arkhangelsk region. The project is to be completed in 2010. The serial production will take no more than 3 years. The pilot project is supposed to take 3 years and 8 months.

7 FNTPPs are to be build by 2015.
