1st unit of Kursk NPP restarted

The 1st unit of Kursk NPP was restarted on Dec 21 00:01 PM

The unit stopped automatically on Dec 18 following the stoppage of two circulation pumps. Its stoppage posed no threat for either the NPP or the nearby area. The preliminary assessment of the incident is 0 on INES scale (no significant risk).

According to the schedule, the 1st, 3rd and 4th units are operating at total capacity of 3,045 MWh. The 2nd unit is being overhauled.

The radiation emission is within admissible control limits. On Dec 21 2006 gamma-radiation in the nearby area was 0.07–0.13 micro sievert/hour, which is the same as before the launch of the NPP in 1975.
