Atomstroyexport starts the final assembly of the reactor of the 2nd unit of Tianwan NPP in China

Specialists of Atomstroyexport have started the final assembly of the reactors of the 2nd unit of Tianwan NPP in China

On Mar 23 2007 the company finished the fueling of the reactor: a total of 163 fuel rods loaded.

The final assembly will last till mid April and will be followed by the physical launch: warming up of the primary cooling circuit, launch of the reactor at minimum controlled capacity and testing of the active zone.

This stage is scheduled for the first half of May.

The contract for the construction of Tianwan NPP was signed in 1997: Russia has pledged to build two units with WWER-1000 with a total capacity of 2000 MW. The general contractor is Atomstroyexport. Tianwan is the biggest project of the Russian-Chinese economic cooperation. It is also the biggest NPP project in China.

Experts say that WWER-1000 reactor is very safe. It has deeply echeloned protection system.

Atomstroyexport is the leading Russian organization implementing inter-governmental agreements on NPP construction abroad. Presently, it is the only company in the world to simultaneously build 7 units in China, India, Iran and Bulgaria.
